Multimedia is a unique combination of creativity
and technology. It is the integration of multiple types of media,
type, printed images, audio, animation, music and video. Southern
California not only has the largest concentration of computer enterprises,
but also global recognition for the movie and television industry.
It is in this environment that educational provide both technological
innovation as well as opportunities for artistic expression in the
form of a graphic design and multimedia accelerated degree program.
These types of curriculum address the growing need for people who
are trained in a variety of multimedia disciplines.
Not only is multimedia in high demand in the graphic arts industry,
but it is an exciting discipline to pursue. Interactive design allows
profound communication through interactivity. Using all the tricks
of the trade, such as virtual reality, digital imagery, sound, video
and 2D/3D animation; a multimedia project can deliver messages more
effectively than any communication tool we have ever used in the
past. Multimedia educational programs must be fast paced to keep
up with the ever-changing industry.
The production of Internet projects and multimedia development
demands a new approach to the work environment. Company owners utilize
the "Hollywood model" and hire people on a project basis.
Just as a director and producer on a movie assemble a team of the
most talented people in the industry, so too do multimedia professionals.
In this way they utilize the most talented people for the job on
a short-term basis. Students pursuing a career in multimedia need
to learn how to work as part of a team. They also need to possess
an entrepreneurial spirit. So many successful multimedia leaders
have not been afraid to take risks on company ventures in the field
of digital media.
In preparing for an artistic career of the future, a prospective
student could not do any better than learning the technology and
design of multimedia.
