The Royal Veterinary College (established 1791), is part
of the University of London, and is the largest veterinary
school in the UK. It is located on two campuses in central
London and in countryside just north of London. The College
has a long tradition of making seminal contributions to
animal care and welfare and public health and undertakes
basic as well as applied research. This continues to the
present day, with staff experienced in a wide range of disciplines
and skills, complemented by the College's clinical facilities
and modern, well-equipped laboratories. The college has
repeatedly received favourable reports from visiting groups
on the quality of its teaching including the maximum possible
in the Quality Assurance Agency Review in 2000.
LOCATION
The
College operates at two establishments, one at Camden Town
in North London (the Camden campus) and the other on a 575-acre
site near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire (the Hawkshead campus).
The two campuses are about l5 miles apart and connection
between them is by road and rail. For administrative purposes
staff and students are in three academic Departments of
Veterinary Basic Sciences, Department of Pathology and Infectious
Diseases and Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences.
However research activity is collected in Research Groups
that cross departmental boundaries and are College wide.
The College is well placed to benefit from the thriving
academic community as well as the exciting multicultural
society in London. Limited accommodation is available at
the College and through the intercollegiate halls of London
University.
ACCESSABILITY
Most postgraduate courses start in September, although research
students may start at any time. Depending on the topic,
degrees may undertaken by veterinary and non-veterinary
graduates.
