As one of the largest FE Colleges in the UK, delivering educational excellence in a first class learning environment is key to everything we do at Solihull College. Both of our campuses – the Blossomfield Campus in the centre of Solihull and the new Woodlands Campus in North Solihull – have everything you would expect from a modern, well-equipped college – and much more besides. The College is an accredited Higher Education centre and as such has developed a range of flexible and accessible university-level programmes across a wide variety of subject areas.
Our programmes are accredited by local universities such as Warwick, Leicester,
the UCE and Oxford Brookes and offered in areas including animal care, art and design, business and management, care and public services, engineering, IT and computing, sport and leisure and teacher training.
Blossomfield Campus
Here you will find excellent facilities for work, study and relaxation, laid out over a pleasant site with plenty of free car parking and good links to buses and trains.
At the heart of Blossomfield is the Parkinson Centre for Sixth Form Studies; a purpose-built campus where our A Level students benefit from the best of school and college life.
All students at Blossomfield benefit from top of the range IT centres in our Millennium Building, a substantial library, video and sound recording studios, hair and beauty salons, horticulture, floristry and animal care facilities and a superb sports and fitness centre.
Woodlands Campus
With the focus on delivering a range of high-quality careers-focused programmes, the College’s new home for education in North Solihull provides up-to-the-minute resources for the whole community. The £13 million Woodlands development offers outstanding purpose-built facilities including commercial-standard hair and beauty salons, engineering and construction workshops, catering kitchens, learning resource and IT centres, a bistro and a fully-equipped nursery.
Both campuses offer the highest quality teaching and support within a relaxed, student-focused atmosphere – the perfect ingredients for a learning environment committed to your success.
First class resources
We know that college life is about more than just studying - and our great facilities for relaxation and learning provide this. At both campuses you can enjoy great eating and a range of special interest clubs and benefit from top of the range IT facilities, libraries and on-site childcare.
Technology focused
We take great pride in the quality of our information technology resources and support. All of our PCs and Apple Macs are loaded with the latest software applications and internet access and every student benefits from a personalised email account. For those who find the idea of computers daunting, specialist computer training is available to ensure you’re quickly brought up to speed.
A thirst for knowledge
Our well-stocked libraries at both our campuses are bursting to the seams with up-to-date texts, newspapers, magazines, CD ROMs, videos and DVDs to support all courses run by the College. Every student also has access to the Learning Line; an invaluable database of e-learning resources which are available from College and at home, through the internet.
Take a break
Our onsite restaurants and café facilities, commercial health and fitness centre, student shops and other areas for relaxation have been designed to ensure you make the most of your time at College away from lectures and assignment writing.
Get in shape
If you’re based at Blossomfield, you don’t even need to go off site to get in shape. The privately run O2 health and fitness centre is equipped with the latest cardiovascular and weight lifting equipment, separate fitness and dance studios and offers a wide-ranging programme of fitness classes.
Spoil yourself
Our high street standard hair and beauty therapy salons are open to the public and offer a wide range of treatments at surprisingly low prices. Staffed by supervised students, the salons - based at both campuses - are open at selected times during weekdays and evening
Get involved
As a new student, the Student Liaison Team should be your first point of call. They organise many of the clubs, societies, sporting activities and College trips. They’ll also make sure you get your hands on that much needed student accessory – the NUS card – for discounts in many high street stores, restaurants, cinemas, other leisure and entertainment centres and travel services.
Supporting you
One of the big differences about Solihull College is our focus on you. We provide a wide range of services to make sure you get the help you need to achieve.
Every full-time student who enrols at the College receives a diagnostic assessment in English and Maths at the beginning of their course so that we can identify whether additional support is required. You will find that on most vocational courses this support is already built in as part of your studies.
At Solihull College you will never have to struggle alone; we are here to help you achieve the very best results you can.
Personal Tutors
You will be assigned a Personal Tutor as soon as you enrol on your course, to provide support, advice, guidance and information during your time at Solihull College. You will meet regularly with your tutor for individual tutorial sessions - to devise a learning plan to help with your progress and to identify any areas you need to focus on, and help with planning for the future is available to all students.
International Support
Our international team will provide support before you join us and throughout your programme of studies. If you are at all concerned about whether you have the necessary qualifications to join one of our programmes, or need help and advice when applying for a visa, then please contact us in plenty of time so that we are able to provide maximum support. Each year students have expressed their sincere thanks to the international staff for their kindness and commitment in assisting them to make their dreams become a reality as the three students below can testify.
If it wasn’t for the commitment and hard work behind the scenes at the College by the international admissions team, the three A-Level students from Pakistan may have seen their dreams left in tatters.
Due to the process involved in securing the relevant paperwork and visas in time for the start of term all three were forced to play catch-up after finally getting the green light to commence their studies in late October.
While these problems may have been viewed as a stumbling block to others, the determined trio just can’t hide their delight at achieving their dream of studying at Solihull College, and they say it is all down to the hard work of the international admissions team.
Zain Ali, international A-Level student, Solihull College, says:
“It’s a great college to be studying at and we all really enjoy the courses we are on. I’m studying physics, chemistry, biology and maths and all four subjects will hopefully help me achieve my dream of progressing onto university.
“Despite not starting our studies until late October we have all had great support in catching up on the work and it hasn’t been a problem at all. We are all really looking forward to the rest of our studies.”
Muhammad Tayyab, international A-Level student, Solihull College, says:
“We are really enjoying life at the College and feel at home here, which helps when it comes to being able to concentrate on studying. The support for us has been great and there have never been any doubts that we made the right decision to choose the College.”
Aamir Arif, international A-Level student, Solihull College, says:
“Being a long way from home and not getting too many chances to go back and see family can be tough at times but with so many people at the College offering support and help it does make you feel that there are people to talk to if you need to.”
