History
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, established
in 1873 as a branch of the Arkansas Industrial University
(now the University of Arkansas), was originally known
as Branch Normal College. In 1882 the school moved to
the suburbs of Pine Bluff, where it expanded into a
four-year degree-granting institution in 1929 as was
certified as a four-year college in 1933.
The Future
New growth strategies for the university include the
completed construction of several new buildings. Academic
Center I is a three storey structure that will house
the School of Education, the Department of English,
the Honors College, and the School of Social and Behavioral
Sciences. Academic Center II is also a three-story structure
that will house the Departments of Nursing, Mathematics,
Biology, and Physics. A third structure, the Applied
Sciences Building, is a two-story laboratory for the
Agriculture and Fisheries Departments.
Campus
Housing
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff provides a
residential living atmosphere where students can learn
and effectively pursue their academic and personal goals.
In addition, the residence life staff leaves the lines
of communication open, so topics of concern can be explored
among all residents. Over 1,000 students are housed
on the UAPB campus, in three traditional-style hall
and tow complexes. Each residence hall features rooms
with common area bath facilities, computer labs, snack
kitchens, laundry facilities, study rooms, telephones,
and cable television.

business, education, and government. Career Services
also provides job search counseling, including resume
writing, interviewing techniques, and access to resource
materials.
Accreditation
UAPB offers over 40 academic majors, with various accreditations
backed by prestigious accrediting bodies. The Bachelor
Degree Program of Regulatory Science is an exclusive
course of study that has been designated a Center of
Excellence by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The
university also offers the only bachelors and master's
degree programs in aquaculture/fisheries in Arkansas.
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is fully accredited
