Welcome to the University of Zaragoza

Although founded in 1542, the University of Zaragoza (with its 35.000 students) has not lost the beat of the times. Meeting point of an increasingly multicultural population with science and research, this institution wants to remain open to a constantly widening and evolving world. We have campuses in Zaragoza, Huesca, Teruel and La Almunia, and some of our faculties, schools and colleges are among the best in Europe in their specialities.

The University of Zaragoza is the main centre of technological innovation in the Ebro Valley and enjoys a great prestige among the group of Spanish, European and International universities it has relations with.

Academic staff at the University of Zaragoza are highly specialised and have a broad research and teaching experience. Be it Spanish as a Foreign Language or fields as interesting to international students as Spanish Literature, Geography, Archaeology, Cinema, History, Biocomputation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI Research Group) or Nanotechnologies (among many others), our combination of teaching and research is proving very successful.

We have specialised offices that manage contacts between all kinds of private and public companies or institutions located in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain or the EU and the different faculties or schools in order to provide students with job and practice opportunities.

At the university of Zaragoza the old traditional studies are offered at “Faculties” (Facultades), e.g. “Facultad de Derecho” (Faculty of Law), while new more technical studies are offered at “Schools” (Escuelas) e.g. “Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica” (University School for Technical Engineering) or “Polytechnics” (Politécnicos), e.g. “Centro Politécnico Superior” (Higher Polytechnic Centre).

The University of Zaragoza is the only public university in the region, which means it is funded by the “Diputación General de Aragón” (Government of Aragon) and the government of Spain. Its activity is spread along the three provinces of Aragon, with teaching campuses and research centres in Huesca, Teruel and Zaragoza.

Through the Vice-Rectorship for International Relations,  the  University of Zaragoza participates in several exchange programmes. It collaborates with Universities and research institutions from Europe, Latin America and the U.S.A., thereby strengthening its international standing.

Besides the official studies, the University of Zaragoza offers other interesting possibilities to international students:

Courses in Spanish as a Foreign Language

Courses in Spanish as a Foreign Language are run throughout the year and vary between 90 and 570 hours. We offer all levels and some specialised courses. Courses along the academic term are offered in Zaragoza, while the Summer Courses are offered in Jaca – The Pyrenees.  The University of Zaragoza was the first Spanish university to offer Spanish Courses for international students in 1927. That makes us pioneers and gives us the world’s richest experience.

It is possible to take courses in Spanish as a Foreign Language and certain subjects at the same time.

The time for submitting admission applications is approximately between 15th June and 15th July. Please get in touch with the faculty that offer the courses you are interested in.

You can find out what subjects are available under:

Zaragoza, Capital City of Aragon, is a multicultural modern and ancient city with 700,000 inhabitants and over 2000 years of history. Zaragoza is the Roman, Muslim, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles mingling with a dynamic high-tech 21st Century City feverishly getting ready for the 2008 International Exposition. Zaragoza is R+D, modern communications and industry, transport networks and first-class logistics. Zaragoza is also museums and theatres, restaurants and shops, pubs and discos, parks and, not far away, the Pyrenees with plenty of outdoor activities. But Zaragoza is, above all, its friendly and welcoming people.

Welcome to Aragon

Aragon is one of the seven autonomic regions (comunidades autónomas) of Spain. It is made up of the provinces of Huesca, Teruel and Zaragoza, with a total of 730 boroughs (municipios).

Welcome to Spain

Spain, as stated in the Preamble of the 1978 Constitution, pursues justice, freedom and security for all its peoples and citizens within a political system based on democracy and an economic system based on the free-market economy. Another very important goal stated in the Constitution is the establishment of peaceful and cooperative relations among all the peoples in the world.

Spain occupies an area of 504.788 square kilometres as part of the Iberian Peninsula in south-western Europe. It shares borders with France in the northeast and Portugal in the west. It is also surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea from the northeast to the southeast and by the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest, the northwest and the north.  It also includes the Balearic Archipelago in the Mediterranean and the Canary Archipelago in the Atlantic, as well as the two African Enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla.

The Autonomous Regions
The Autonomous Regions (Comunidades Autónomas) of Spain.

From the Castles of Castilla to the rocky northern coastline, from the sandy Mediterranean Beaches to the magic landscapes of the Pyrenees, from the world of art to its modern yet traditional cuisine, Spain always has something in reserve to delight your senses.

Spanish economy is based mainly on industry, tourism, services and agriculture. New technologies are now part of Spanish life as much as they are in any other European country, and the development of new sustainable energy sources as well as other specific technologies is being strongly supported.
